Good morning/afternoon/evening, my name is XXX. I am truly grateful for the chance to speak in front of you today. I look forward to addressing any questions you might have and hope to deliver a memorable presentation.
Currently, I am pursuing my master's degree in automation at Shanghai Jiao Tong University, in the People's Republic of China. Driven by a passion for Industrial Engineering, I am excited to apply for your esteemed Ph.D. program.
In 1995, I enrolled at Nanjing University of Science & Technology (NUST), regarded as one of the premier engineering institutions in China. Throughout my undergraduate years, I consistently achieved high academic performance, receiving the First Class Prize every semester. By 1999, I was fortunate to gain direct entry into the graduate program without needing to sit for the entrance exam.
During my master's studies, I maintained an impressive GPA of 3.77 out of 4.0, placing me in the top 5% of my cohort. In my second semester, I earned the role of teaching assistant, a position reserved for particularly capable and mature students. Recently, I was awarded the Acer Scholarship, the sole recipient from my department, which recognizes exceptional academic achievement. I am currently working on my thesis, aiming for the distinction of an Excellent Graduation Thesis.
Research Experience and Academic Engagement
In my sophomore year, I became a member of the AI Enthusiasts Association, which helped refine my research interests. Utilizing OpenGL and Matlab, I developed a simulation program for a transportation scheduling system, now employed by various research teams at NUST. Additionally, I managed a sewage analysis and disposal project for the Nanjing sewage treatment plant, marking my first transition from conceptualization to a practical application.
Reflecting on my journey, I realize I have built a solid foundation in both theoretical knowledge and practical experience, effectively preparing me for the Ph.D. program. My future research interests entail Network Scheduling Problems, Heuristic Algorithm development (with a focus on Genetic Algorithms and Neural Networks), Supply Chain Network analysis, Hybrid System Performance Analysis utilizing Petri Nets, and advancements in Data Mining.
