然而，若干年后，我们仍然发现一些人未能真正享有自由，依然困在种族隔离和歧视的束缚中。许多人生活在贫困的孤岛，周围却是繁荣的海洋。依旧有许多人在这个社会的角落辛酸求生，仿佛是流亡者，失去了自己的家园。今天，我们汇聚于此，就是为了揭示这种耻辱的现实。

我们来到国家的心脏，正是为了要讨回那张欠条。当我们的先辈们制定宪法和独立宣言时，他们实际上是在签署一份承诺，确保所有人，无论肤色，都能享有“生命、自由与追求幸福”的权利。然而，如今显而易见的是，国家在这份承诺上失约了。对于有色人种而言，这 promissory note 并没有兑现，而是给了他们一张标注着“资金不足”的支票。

我曾遇到一位美国游客，她说：“中国有五千年的历史，而美国只有二百年。五千年前，中国曾引领世界，而如今是美国在主导。”我听后内心深受触动。确实，我们仍然是一发展中国家，但这并不意味着我们可以自轻自贱。我们有悠久的历史，有丰富的资源，有聪慧而勤劳的人民，有足够的理由去自豪。我们可以自信地说：未来我们一定能够再次引领世界。因为我们的挑战虽大，但我们更有雄心；我们的困难虽多，但我们的决心更为坚定。

我是一名中国人。我承载着黑发与黑眼，继承着祖辈的优良品质，也肩负着责任。不论我身在何处，做着怎样的事情，我永远不会忘记我是中国人！

Good morning, everyone. Today, I am excited to talk to you about the importance of perseverance. To illustrate my points, I’ll share two anecdotes from my experiences.

The first story dates back to my middle school days. I remember participating in a science fair. Many of my peers showcased elaborate projects like robotics or chemistry experiments. I, on the other hand, chose to present a simple volcano model. At first, I felt embarrassed and thought my project was insignificant compared to theirs.

The second story takes place during my first semester in college. We had a challenging group assignment, and while some members gave up after encountering obstacles, one of our classmates insisted we keep pushing through. Her determination inspired us all to keep going, and together we succeeded in completing the project.

Reflecting on these experiences, I have come to understand that perseverance is crucial in pursuing our goals. In my youth, I believed that achievement meant avoiding failure. However, with time, I recognized that setbacks are part of the journey. They teach us valuable lessons and help build our resilience.

The true essence of perseverance lies not just in reaching the finish line but in the journey itself. Every challenge we face and overcome refines our character and strengthens our resolve. It's in these moments of struggle that we discover our true potential and gain insight into our aspirations.
